Abstract

At OAO ChMK, corrosion-resistant steel is smelted by a duplex process, in an arc smelting furnace and an argon–oxygen refining unit. After correcting the chemical composition and temperature in an integrated processing unit, melt of mass 100 t is cast on a radial continuous-casting machine to slab billet (mass 4–7.5 t). The mold dimensions are 1100–1550 × 170 mm; provision is made for protection of the metal jet from oxidation under slag-forming mixture. After trimming, the slabs are hotor cold-rolled to sheet of thickness 0.8– 25 mm.
