Abstract

In the recent decades, Jojoba biodiesel is considered as one of the most potential renewable energy sources of many countries. Thus, an investigation was conducted for the enhancement of jojoba biodiesel-diesel blends with the addition of 10% n-butanol by volume which is generally acknowledged as an oxygenated additive. Engine performance was examined at variable loads, ranging from no load (0 N.m) to 13.5 N.m at a constant speed of 2000 rpm on a compression ignition engine. The cylinder pressure and the heat release rate analysis were explored for the tested fuels to examine the behavior of the combustion process. Engine emissions of NOx, CO, and UHC were also investigated. The combustion outcomes exhibited that the maximum cylinder pressure and the peak heat release rate were slightly reduced as compared to diesel oil. There was a significant reduction in the exhaust emissions where the NOx, CO, and UHC were reduced by 80%, 80%, and 65%, respectively. It can be concluded that the addition of n-butanol with jojoba biodiesel-diesel blends has a remarkable positive effect on the engine performance and emissions.
