Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the methodological foundations for the development of professional
 competencies of students of economic specialties. The essence of these competencies is studied, various approaches to its
 interpretation are considered, their advantages and disadvantages are identified. An analysis of modern types of
 professional competencies of economic specialists was carried out, which made it possible to group them into several
 enlarged groups and determine the possibilities for supplementing them. Based on the results of the study, an author's
 approach to improving the methodological foundations for the development of professional competencies of students of
 economic specialties was developed, including the substantiation of the author's interpretation of the term «professional
 competencies» and expanding the specific composition of these competencies, taking into account the realities of the
 modern world.
