Abstract

To improve the luminescence properties of Ce-doped Y3Al5O12 (YAG:Ce3+), Sr ions are used as co-dopants. New defects created in the charge compensation could modify the symmetry of the crystal field around the Ce doping ion. The samples were produced by a modified sol-gel, using glucose as a polymerizing agent. X-ray diffraction measurements confirmed the presence of the single YAG phase. From Rietveld refinement, it was possible to observe that the unit cell expands with the increase of the Sr2+ concentration. The photoluminescence (PL) showed characteristic transitions of Ce3+ ions with greater emission intensity in the green region. The luminescence decay time showed that the concentration makes the emission more persistent.
