Abstract
Speed control of induction machine (IM)can be achieved by two popular methods namely scalar control and vector control. Scalar control has good steady state response and is robust against the variation in machine parameters. However, the poor transient response of this method results in its limited applications. On the other hand, vector control of IM has good transient response. But this control is sensitive to the variation in machine parameters. Additionally, precise location of the flux position plays an important role on the transient and steady state performances of vector control. This paper proposes a novel speed control method to improve the dynamic performance of scalar control using phase angle control. The proposed control method has a very good dynamic performance while maintaining the robustness features of scalar control. Dynamic performance and robustness features of the proposed method are validated through simulation results.
