Abstract

The research has been carried out to make andcharacterize polymer concrete using the mixture of sand, pumice, coffee shell and polyester-polyurethane mixed resins. This research is conducted to determine the effect of mixing resins.Expectedly, the combinationofpolyester resin and polyurethane resin could improve the characteristics of the obtained polymer concrete.Composition of coffee shell which varied are 0 grams, 2 grams, 4 grams, 6 grams, 8 grams and 10 grams with variations of mixed resin in ratio 1 : 1 are 20 grams, 25 grams and 30 grams. Then, it has pressed by using Hot Press at 170 °C for 30 minutes. The characterization of polymer concrete includes physical properties (density, porosity and water absorption) and mechanical properties (compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural strength). The results of research showed that density (1.22-1.63) g/cm3; porosity (11.2-53.2) %; water absorbtion(6.87-38.47) %; compressive strength (1.39-14.04)MPa; tensile strength (0.73-3.76)MPa; andflexural strength (1.23-19.67)MPa. These results showed that polymer concrete using mixture of polyester-polyurethane resins increased porosity, water absorption, compressive strength and flexural strength, and also decreased density.
