The emergency treatment of heart attacks in the UK, or what is known as ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), has undergone substantial change in recent years, with the use of both pharmacological treatment administered before the patient is admitted to hospital (pre-hospital thrombolysis (PHT)), mechanical intervention and primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI), increasing rapidly.
