Abstract
Background: Hypertension and pre-hypertension in childhood are underdiagnosed, likely because of decreased recognition of elevated blood pressure (BP). Poor recognition has been shown to be most influenced by the absence of obviously elevated BP, obesity, and a family history of cardiovascular disease. Inaccuracies in pediatric outpatient blood pressure measurement were also noted based on caregivers’ level of expertise in pediatric hypertension.
