Abstract

Background: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections are the most common sexually transmitted infections in the United States, with 14 million people infected annually. Despite AAP recommendations for HPV vaccination starting at 9 years, national vaccination rates remain low. In 2014, 60% of adolescent girls received at least one dose; only 39.7% completed the series. A significant barrier to vaccination is the parental perception that HPV vaccination promotes sexual activity.
