Abstract
ABSTRACT The growing aging population and concerns about quality health care for people with dementia and other chronic illnesses have stimulated numerous efforts targeting health care providers. The “Partnering with Your Doctor” program is the first to explore the efficacy of a consumer “self-management” approach to improving dementia health care. The program, consisting of a workshop and accompanying informational booklet available in English and Spanish, was conducted across California. Evaluation results indicated that participants were satisfied with the program, learned new actions to take before and during doctor visits, and experienced increased confidence in their ability to work effectively with doctors to improve the quality of care received.
