Abstract

Background: Ulipristal is the most effective oral form of emergency contraception (EC) available in the US. Although all oral EC loses efficacy over time, levonorgestrel loses efficacy more rapidly than ulipristal, especially after 72 hours. Evidence suggests ulipristal is also more effective for patients weighing > 75 kilograms. Prior to this quality improvement (QI) project, ulipristal was not used for any ED patients.
