Abstract
Consumers can expect prenatal care to incorporate the many recent advances in clinical assessment and management. Our overabundant small maternity units lack the resources to meet consumer expectations and will be forced to close. Health professionals must develop alternative health. cure delivery systems now to insure against critical shortages of maternity beds and to provide modern OB care to every patient. For quality and economy of care, one alternative system is regionalization of facilities within an area. The program can be adapted to meet different needs of different areas.
