Abstract

0.49Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.51Pb(Hf0.3Ti0.7)O3 (PNN-PHT) piezoelectric ceramics added with LiF were prepared, and the effect of the LiF addition on their piezoelectric properties was investigated. Results showed that LiF promoted the formation of pure perovskite phase and the densification of the PNN-PHT ceramics. The better piezoelectric properties, i.e. d33 = 957 pC/N and εr = 7113, were obtained for the 4at% LiF added sample which was prepared at a sintering temperature as low as 1100°C. The mechanism of the improved properties by LiF addition was discussed. Results suggest the PNN-PHT ceramic to be an excellent candidate for lead-based piezoelectric materials applied in large displacement actuator.
