Abstract
The type and quantity of the constituent parts primarily dictate the property profile of a sheet gasket. In a compressed fibre material there are at least 20 types of raw materials, and hence the main focus for innovation surrounds material developments and formulations. Less focus is placed on development of the manufacturing processes. A novel material concept for compressed fibre materials is presented here which significantly decelerates the ageing of elastomer-bound gasket materials by the use of special elastomers and an adapted material structure, the Multi-Layer Structure. Steam testing, as opposed to standard gasket testing, has been used to demonstrate this improvement.
