Abstract

Offender health care has seen significant change in the past decade. From transfer of commissioning responsibility moving to the NHS, a steadily increasing prison population and a more general awareness of the health needs of people in prison from mental health, substance misuse, learning disabilities and primary care provision; these changes have increased interest and debate among politicians, the public, the media and healthcare providers.
