Abstract

The mechanical performance and strengthening mechanism of in-situ TiB2 ceramic particles reinforced eutectic Al-Fe-Ni alloy were researched. The smaller-sized TiB2 particles are uniformly distributed inside the grain and larger-sized particles tend to gather at the eutectic grain boundary. The hardness and room temperature tensile tests show that TiB2 particles improve the comprehensive mechanical properties of the eutectic alloy. Meanwhile, the high temperature tensile strength of eutectic alloys is also enhanced by particles. The pinning effect of TiB2 particles on dislocation and eutectic boundary are the main strengthening mechanisms. The study on the microstructures and properties of TiB2 particles reinforced eutectic alloys provides guidance for enhancing the mechanical performance of eutectic Al alloys.
