Abstract

There are many companies around the world implementing Lean Manufacturing Systems and Tools, also known as Lean practices. Although Lean practices have been proven to be very useful, there are a number of challenges when implementing and maintaining them. Culturally employees in different countries and companies have differing motivations. Therefore, finding a method to motivate and engage employees to adhere to the Lean practices is a priority. Moreover, there are new technologies emerging which can be utilised to assist in the communication and improve engagement and adherence of the Lean practices. Additionally, it is important to understand how these technologies can be linked and cross utilized within the organization in an Industry 4.0 approach. This case study examines the implementation of Lean practices in an Engine Manufacturing Centre, taking into consideration what motivates individuals, utilising technology and considering an Industry 4.0 approach.
