Abstract

Introduction Novel Oral Anticoagulants (NOACs) are now being frequently used as an alternative to Warfarin in patients requiring anticoagulation. A considerable number of patients are being referred to the Oral and Maxillofacial surgery department at the RFH London hospitals for simple oral surgery procedures due to the patient's use of NOACs. Some of these procedures could be carried out in primary care. Our aim is to improve the knowledge of NOACs amongst general dental practitioners (GDPs), to allow them to effectively treat this cohort of patients and ultimately reduce the number of referrals to tertiary care, for otherwise simple extractions.
