Improving job tenure for people with psychiatric disabilities through ongoing employment support

AbstractFor many people with psychiatric disabilities sustaining employment is often more challenging than acquiring a job. This Australian study explores factors that influence sustainability of employment for people with psychiatric disabilities. Participants of a community based vocational rehabilitation program who were successful in gaining open employment were followed up six months after the closure of their programs to investigate factors that helped them stay in employment. Findings suggest that the availability of ongoing employment support and the nature of support services provided may be important factors for employment success.
