Improving interaction on laser safety training courses

Abstract

The joint Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Loughborough University Laser Safety Management training courses have been running for over 20 years. Over this time, the course has been modified, redesigned and developed to increase the interaction with the attendees. This included a range of practical activities from risk assessments on real-life situations to measurements of lasers and providing hands-on experience to compliment learning of the core knowledge required in laser safety management.More changes have taken place last year to develop the course further with the aim to take the interaction during the course to a greater level. One of the main objectives is to encourage discussion within the class and to gauge the attendees’ understanding of the subject. Successful interaction techniques used at Universities and Schools have been investigated and introduced into laser safety training.
