Abstract

nization had the capacity to do so. At the regional level such mapping would be helpful for establishing developmental priorities of regional planners and for working to remove disparities in development. In sum, the atlas is an important cartographic and geographical work with a few shortcomings. For geographers in other developing countries the atlas is a symbolic milestone; for the producers of the atlas, it is a mark of excellence. The work deserves a place in major libraries to be available to persons who wish to acquire in-depth knowledge of India or to do research on the multifaceted spatial characteristics of the country.
