Abstract

This paper describes the use of a specific Group Support System (GSS) in the detailed monitoring and improvement of a training course. The increasing use of GSS's in numerous business processes suggests that their use in training is a natural progression. A number of papers have already been published describing the use of GSS’s for general feedback within educational programs. The development of a training course begins classically with the business objectives of the course, then defining the skills required to achieve these objectives, then the training processes required to develop these skills. The measures of success of the course can then be identified. As described in this paper, feedback from the GSS influences the immediate content of specific courses as they are being run and is also used to change the course design. Measures of success of the course are monitored by feedback during and at the end of the course. The consequences of using this GSS-based feedback process have been a measurably high level of participant satisfaction and a reduction of course duration, in this particular case, of 75%. Conclusions are drawn about the benefits of this approach.
