Abstract

Published expert guidelines are available to promote evidence-based acne treatment by nondermatologic providers, but use is limited in pediatric primary care. This quality improvement initiative aimed to improve awareness and use of American Academy of Dermatology treatment guidelines for acne vulgaris in pediatric primary care and reduce reliance on referrals. Using the Model for Improvement, a positive practice change was achieved when clinicians probed acne treatment history and prescribed using American Academy of Dermatology evidence-based treatment guidelines.
