Abstract

The United States needs an adequate national warning system to alert people about natural and human‐made hazards, several scientists told a forum on disasters at the U.S. National Academies of Science in Washington, D.C. on 31 October.They also urged other improvements in risk communication and understanding risk perception. While natural and human‐made hazards can cause significant damages, so can improper risk communication, they said.
