Abstract

Hydrodynamic pressure is an indispensable load influencing stability of a bank slope exposed to reservoir water level fluctuations. However, the Transfer Coefficient Method(TCM), one of the limit equilibrium methods, only considers seepage force in the slope but not the hydrodynamic pressure. To calculate the stability of the bank slope more accurately, hydrodynamic pressure is redefined through indoor permeation experiment, based on which, mathematical expressions of hydrodynamic pressure are put forward and the TCM is improved. Taking Shuping landslide as an example, the stability coefficients of Shuping landslide under the condition of reservoir water level fluctuations are calculated by using the modified TCM. The results agree with the field deformation monitoring of the landslide. Therefore, compared with the TCM, the modified one in this study could be more suitable to calculate stability coefficient of bank slopes under reservoir operations.
