Abstract

(Ba/sub 0.6/Sr/sub 0.3/Ca/sub 0.1/) TiO/sub 3/ (BSCT) powders were prepared by the sol-gel method using a solution of Ba, Sr and Ca acetate and Ti isopropoxide. BSCT ceramics, doped with MnCO/sub 3/ (0.1 mol%) and Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/ (0.5 mol%), were fabricated by the cold isostatic press method, and then the structural and electrical properties as a function of milling method and sintering atmosphere were studied. All specimens showed small and uniform grains of 1-3 /spl mu/m in diameter. Average pore size of BSCT ceramics were sintered at air ambient, was 5 microns, BSCT ceramics were sintered at 1450/spl deg/C, oxygen atmosphere was 3 microns. Dielectric constant and dielectric loss of air-sintered BSCT specimens at the Curie temperature were 16000 and 1.4% under a zero bias field, respectively. O/sub 2/-sintered BSCT ceramics were 36000 and 1.3%, respectively. The pyroelectric coefficient of BSCT ceramics was increased with an O/sub 2/-sintering showed a value of 650/spl times/10/sup -9/ C/cm/sup 2/ K under a 4 kV/cm DC bias field.
