Abstract

An Fe–Pd alloy with about 30 at.% Pd belongs to the group of shape memory alloys. In our study, Fe–Pd sheets and shape memory ribbons were manufactured by means of cold rolling and the free jet melt-spinning method, respectively. The two-way shape memory effect of as-received ribbons was examined. The necessary condition for obtaining the shape memory effect with transformation temperatures around room temperature is the absence or the presence of a very small amount of b.c.t. martensite in the Fe–Pd specimens.
