Improvement of productivity by implementing occupational ergonomics

Abstract

ABSTRACT Total productive maintenance has been established in many industries to improve their operational efficiency, but still, operator comfort and safety remain the driving force for achieving total employee involvement. It is possible only when occupational ergonomics is integrated with total productive maintenance. This study explores the advantages gained by integrating the Safety Health and Environment pillar with a focus on occupational ergonomics. The outcome of the study has established the necessity and benefit of focusing on occupational ergonomics in every aspect of total productive maintenance. By Implementing Safety Health and Environment pillar activities (such as reducing the operator movement across the machines, improving workplace design) and 5S, employees’ physical stress, and operator fatigue are reduced. Thus, the operator’s safety and morale are improved, and zero accidents in operators are achieved.
