Abstract

Soil bin test were conducted in Japan to optimize the shape of a drop-down plough for soil mixing of the second (Aw) and third (B) horizons to improve the planosol solum in China leaving the first (Ap) horizon undisturbed. The drop-down plough consisted of two plough bodies and had a low draught requirement and gave good soil mixing in Part 1 of this paper. The results showed that with a half-size model plough, the least draught and a maximum soil mixing rate were obtained when the plough height was 120-140 mm and the lift angle about 30 deg.
