Abstract

The improvement of packing fraction and magnetic permeability of amorphous FeSiCrB (FSCB) powder via the addition of Carbonyl Iron Powder (CIP) and nano Fe (NF) to insulated FeSiCrB (FSCB) amorphous powder was investigated. In the case of the bi-modal powder mixing, the packing fraction and permeability increased with the addition of CIP compared to FSCB, with the best packing fraction of 75.30 % and permeability of 25.86 at 20 wt% CIP. NF was added to maximize the packing fraction at 20 wt% CIP, and the maximum packing fraction of 76.69 % and permeability of 27.33 were found at 3 wt% NF. As the packing fraction increased with the addition of CIP and NF, the maximum permeability was obtained at the maximum packing fraction, which was consistent with Ollendorff's equation.
