Abstract

The management of new technologies among university students is a subject of great concern among the University of Seville's different degree programs. In the Faculty of Dentistry, the students use a paper book (the traditional format) to access the information that will later be established in preclinical seminars. This paper aims to measure the efficacy of printed and electronic formats, as well as their acceptance in the teaching of oral surgery, through a prospective unicentric study. The population being studied students in the third year of the Degree of Dentistry studying Oral Surgery during the 2009-2010 academic year. The results indicate that 87% of the students are satisfied with the experience of using both electronic and traditional books. Regarding the importance of including the e-book as part of teaching methodology, students rated e-books as 4.50 ± 2.00 on a scale of 0 to 10. We can conclude that students perceive the e-book as an interesting technology, although with reduced applications when compared to the traditional book.
