Abstract

Improvement of optical fibre systems performance by optimisation of receiver filter bandwidth and numerical methods to evaluate Q-factor By considering as a particular example the fibre transmission line between Madrid and Merida (455 km of singlemode fibre) with strong patterning effects, it is demonstrated that optimisation of the receiver filter bandwidth can lead to a substantial improvement in the performance of an optical amplifier system. Novel statistical methods for numerically estimating the BER are presented.
