Abstract

This paper presents a study of a method to improve intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) resistance in the weld heat-affected zone (HAZ) of NiCrFe alloy 600. The improvement was associated with control of the Nb stabilization parameter N , representing the number of niobium atoms per carbon atom in the alloy. The SCC life behavior of improved alloy was examined in the 288°C pure water containing 8 ppm O 2. The results showed that this new alloy is sufficiently resistant to IGSCC compared with ordinary alloy 600.
