Abstract

The irregular distribution of voltage and electric field stress along the composite insulator strings causes a bad effect on their electrical and mechanical properties that threatened the safety of power system. In this paper, a new design for using merging and coating nanoparticles techniques for increasing self-capacitance of silicon rubber (SiR) insulators thereby voltage and electric field distribution become more uniform along the string and so improve SiR material properties. Three-dimensional Simulation model of SiR composite insulators were set up to calculate electric field distribution by finite element method (FEM) which used by ANSYS software. It has been succeeded to present suitable solutions for SiR insulators string problems in manufacturing and so decrease the applied electrical field stress at the live end of composite insulator up to 49.2%.
