Abstract

Alternating layers of 9,10-bis(4-methylphenyl) anthracene (diMe-DPA) and platinum octaethylporphyrin were fabricated via vacuum deposition on an in-plane-oriented polythiophene (PT) film. The multilayer film showed higher upconversion (UC) quantum efficiency than bilayer films with similar composition and total thickness. The UC quantum efficiency of the multilayer structure deposited on the oriented PT film was three times higher than those deposited on glass substrates, suggesting that the molecular alignment of diMe-DPA increases the UC quantum efficiency.
