Abstract

The Lu3+ ions doped Nd:YAG transparent ceramics were fabricated by co-precipitation and vacuum sintering method. To obtain the highly transparent ceramics, the sintering process was optimized by omitting the sintering stage at 1450 °C to keep the sintering activity of the nanosize powders. As a result, the transmittances of Lu, Nd:YAG ceramics are significantly increased from the opaque to the transparent. The XRD pattern of Nd:YAG ceramic with 0.8 at% Lu3+ has fewer diffraction peaks shift compared to the ceramics with different Lu3+ concentration, while its fluorescent intensity is the highest. Moreover, there is no significant change regarding the lifetime of ceramics at a constant 2.0 at% Nd3+ concentration.
