Abstract

Monel 400 alloy has been generally applied to marine equipment because of their outstanding corrosion resistance. However, poor abrasive resistance limits its service life. Herein, by depositing electroless Ni–P on Monel 400 alloy, the abrasive resistance after corrosion and wear tests and cathodic protection tests improved by 5 and 21 times, respectively. In addition, due to the inhibiting effect of the corrosion products of nickel and phosphorus, the corrosion resistance of the deposition is better. Ni–P deposition at 500 °C is more beneficial for improving the corrosion resistance and abrasive resistance of the alloy. More interestingly, the synergy between corrosion and wear of the alloy changes from inhibiting to promoting effects after Ni–P deposition.
