Abstract
The phenol‐sulfuric acid method for determining total carbohydrates was applied to surface sediment samples from a brackish water lake, using an improved technique in which the order of addition of reagents proved to be essential for reproducibility. Corrections are made for noncarbohydrate materials that may be present in the samples.
