Abstract

A new scheme for improving the performances of tapered slot-line antenna (TSA) is proposed in this paper, by properly embedding a set of metallic strips as grating into the slot. Two different kinds of loading for gain enhancing or bandwidth broadening are developed respectively. The former is a linearly tapered slot-line antenna (LTSA) loaded by grating with 2 dB increment of gain; the simulated results are well verified by measured data. It achieves enhanced gain of 2 dBi over 6.0 ∼ 9.5 GHz (45.2%) and VSWR < 2.0 : 1 over 5.3 ∼ 9.6 GHz (57.7%). The latter is an asymmetrically tapered slot-line antenna (ATSA) loaded by grating with improved shaped pattern of uniformly coverage on the service range and VSWR ≤ 2.0 : 1 covering both WiMAX bands of 3.3 ∼ 3.8 GHz and 5.1 ∼ 5.8 GHz.
