Abstract

This paper proposes an improved direct torque control (DTC) method for five-phase induction motor drive. The proposed DTC technique is accomplished by selecting the optimal voltage vector. Five-phase inverter has many case of voltage vector which compared to three-phase inverter. The voltage vectors are composed with two zero voltage vectors and thirty effective voltage vectors in five-phase inverter system. The voltage vectors are classified into the large voltage vector, medium voltage vector, and small voltage vector according to the magnitude of the voltage vector. Especially, the magnitude of the voltage vector is related to the torque ripple and the torque response of the machine. Therefore, the main idea of the proposed algorithm for DTC in the five-phase induction motor is the voltage vector selection for improving the torque ripple and torque response speed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the simulation.
