Abstract

In present era to meet the increasing load demand there is integration of intermittent Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in the power sector. The penetration of these clean energy sources causes voltage instability, frequency fluctuation and propagation of harmonics in the system. This paper presents Electric Spring (ES) to suppress the harmonics caused by the non-linear critical load. Basically Electric Spring is a current controlled voltage source with Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) as a basic building block. To switch the inverter current controlled techniques are used. Therefore, this paper proposes Modified Space Vector based Hysteresis Current controller (SVM-HCC) for Electric Spring applications in smart grid to achieve constancy in switching frequency. The proposed technique capitalized on the combined advantages of both Space Vector Modulation (SVM) and Hysteresis Current Control (HCC) techniques. Simulation results are obtained using MATLAB environment are used to demonstrate the advantages of Modified Hysteresis Controller compared to Conventional Hysteresis Controller to achieve constancy switching frequency.
