Abstract

The aim of hormonal treatment in differentiated thyroid carcinoma is complete inhibition of TSH secretion. As highly sensitive immunoradiometric assays (IRMA) discriminate between suppressed basal TSH (TSHb) levels in hyperthyroid patients and normal values in euthyroid subjects, the question arises whether TSHb levels could possibly substitute TRH-testing in the follow-up of these patients. Therefore we studied the sensitivity of TSHb and TRH-testing by IRMA and conventional RIA to control treatment with levothyroxine and triiodothyronine.
