Abstract

SummaryA method for removing color from neutralized and degummed cottonseed oil is described. Data included shows color removal to be directly correlated to: a) concentration of sodium hydroxide solution, b) length of time of agitation, and c) speed of agitation in r.p.m. The degree of color removal is inversely correlated to the temperature of the oil during agitation with sodium hydroxide solutions. Laboratory findings have been put to practical use in the refinery for over a year with satisfactory results.
