Abstract
Donor scarcity stimulated the development of strategies to increase the organ pool for transplantation by accepting fatty livers which are usually rejected. Zucker rats (ZR) are models of hepatic steatosis. A machine perfusion (MP) system with recirculation of an oxygenated medium at 20°C was developed that proved to afford a good protection of normal rat liver. The device was tested on the liver of fat Zucker rat.
