Abstract

The effect of electrodepositing polypyrrole (PPy) onto dye-coated surface on the photocurrent-voltage characteristics of dye-sensitized solar cells was studied. It is observed that both open-circuit voltage and short-circuit photocurrent of PPy-anchored solar cells increase, compared to those of a cell. Furthermore, the stability of the characteristics is enhanced with the modification. The combined effects of reduced back-electron-transfer to ions and negative shift of flatband potential explain the increase. Analyses of electrochromic measurements suggest that the increase is related to the enrichment of conduction band electrons in the electrode. © 2002 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.
