Abstract

This paper presents the improvement in the performance of photovoltaic array for water pumping system by introducing fuzzy control in Sensorless vector control of induction motor drive instead of PI control. The design of the proposed system was made in MATLAB/Simulink. The motor speed was estimated from estimated flux of stator. The fuzzy control in system has remarkable advantages than conventional drive. This proposed system has solar photovoltaic (PV) array, three phase voltage source inverter (VSI), vector controlled induction motor drive and motor pump. An incremental conductance algorithm has been used to achieve maximum power utilisation from solar PV array. It was observed that solar parameters, torque were improved, peak over shoot was much smaller and speed was controlled by introducing Fuzzy logic controller in vector control of induction motor drive compared to PI controller system. Steady state condition of different parameters was obtained in very fast and less time. The deviations in estimated speed and sensed speed of motor drive were decreased and well matched within fraction of seconds.
