Abstract

Abstract A new modelling analysis and simulation of flow in the kneading disc region of an intermeshing corotating twin screw extruder is presented. The modelling takes account of the complex flow behavior between the intermeshing kneading discs. This leads to alternate expansions and compressions of the local volume between the intermeshing regions and the chamber wall. This fluctuating volume modifies the flow fields and acts as a pump.
