Abstract

Methods have been developed for digitally synthesising and generating waveforms which are optimised for studying the mechanical properties of skeletal muscles. By use of spectral analysis the frequency response of the muscle can be determined efficiently. The frequency response can then be fitted by quantitative models to describe the muscle properties. Similar methods can be applied to mechanoreceptors or to whole reflex systems activated by mechanical inputs to cutaneous or muscle receptors.
