Abstract

This paper discusses some of the considerations which are involved in a wideband low-noise transistor IF amplifier when an automatic gain control is used to hold its output constant. The design of a satisfactory pulsed IF gain control amplifier is described and measured performance data is shown by means of curves. This article presents an improved method of applying AGC to the wideband IF amplifier that overcomes, to a great extent, the problems that have plagued previous AGC circuits. It is hoped that this circuit will be of value in application of transistor amplifier for use in superheterodyne receivers.
