Abstract

The hyperfine structure of the 1s3s3S1 state of 3He has been measured in an analysis of Doppler-limited spectra profiles of the optical transitions at 7065 Å, from the 1s2p 3PJ states. Excitation and high spectral resolution is obtained with a single mode, tunable dye laser, and detection is by measuring the optogalvanic effect in the positive column of a glow capilliary discharge. The experimental result, an order of magnitude more precise than previous measurements on this state, is in good agreement with theoretical calculations.
